Renaissance Veterans Apartments at Fitzsimons

The Permanent Supportive Housing program for the Renaissance Veterans Center in Aurora is a flagship project providing much-needed housing and services for veterans who need stabilization and reintegration into the community, starting with permanent housing and on-site key services.

Architecturally, this leads to a compelling combination of well-designed residential units, coupled with spaces for caseworkers, counseling, classrooms, a small clinic, and various community gathering spaces, all with an emphasis on trauma-informed design.

In addition to providing pleasant units and generous corridors designed to extend the unit space to common areas, the building hosts: a library which will stock books and provide areas for contemplation and research; a large community room for gatherings and classroom training of various types; a multi-purpose room with a teaching kitchen; and pocket social gathering areas sprinklered throughout the building. The building also boasts generous exterior spaces, with meditation paths, workout areas, a generous BBQ gathering space, a dog run, and multiple intimate outdoor gathering areas.

The setting for this building is within the Fitzsimons campus, uniquely positioned on land owned by the Colorado Division of Human Services. This combination led to a complex entitlements process, which our team mapped out and navigated for timely approvals between CDHS, the City of Aurora, and the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority.
